OUTDOOR ADVENTURES: Last ride of season at Mt. A, plant sales, bike swap and more

The last day of skiing for the season at Mt. Ashland Ski Area is Sunday. 

A last ride down the mountain with ski area staff and community members is set for 3 p.m. starting at the summit. 

Ariel, Windsor and Comer chairs are scheduled to operate 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sonnet, Lithia and the First Act surface lift are closed for the season.

There is no weekday skiing.

Plant a tree on Arbor Day 

Join the Ashland Tree Commission and city parks staff members on Friday, Arbor Day, for an annual tree planting work party at The Nature Center in North Mountain Park, 620 N. Mountain Ave. in Ashland. 

The event, set for 10 a.m. to noon, is for people 12 years of age and older. Registration is required, at ashlandoregon.gov/register. For more information, call the center at 541-488-6606. 

Heritage Plant Sale scheduled for farm 

Shop more than 70 varieties of perennials and other plants at the Hanley Farm Heritage Plant Sale, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The farm, owned and operated by the Southern Oregon Historical Society, is at 1073 Hanley Road, Central Point.

Spring native plant sale set for Saturday 

Join the Pollinator Project Rogue Valley for its annual Spring Native Plant Sale for the Pollinators, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pollination Place, 312 N. Main St in Phoenix. 

Vendors and partners will be in attendance. Not all vendors take credit cards. Parking is limited, but street parking is nearby. Bring boxes, baskets, carts or other containers to hold plants.

Rogue Valley Bike Swap is this weekend 

The 32nd annual Rogue Valley Bike Swap is set for 12-2:30 p.m. Saturday at The Grove, 1195 E. Main St. in Ashland. Buy, sell or donate bicycles, parts and accessories. 

A kids bike rodeo is set for 12:30 p.m. Visitors can learn about local bike programs and register their bikes with Ashland police.

Illyfest boat races, clean-up to take place 

The annual “illyfest” boat races and river clean-up event on the Illinois River is set for Saturday and Sunday at the Six Mile Campground near Selma. 

It’s a fundraiser for the Dome School in Takilma. Food trucks and live music will be on site. 

Races are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with registration open at 8 a.m. The clean-up is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The campground is along Illinois River Road about 6 miles west of the Redwood Highway, in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.

Learn to restore waterways, wetlands 

Learn about low-cost, low-tech strategies to restore natural waterways and wetlands during a hands-on workshop set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Vesper Meadow, 16534 Dead Indian Memorial Road, east of Ashland. 

Topics include soil erosion control, plant community restoration and natural water flow. Activities include willow-staking and maintenance of in-creek structures.

Gem and mineral show in Grants Pass 

The Rogue Gem & Geology Club’s Spring Gem & Mineral Show is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass. 

Activities include vendors, a silent auction, raffle, kids corner, displays, vendors and food trucks.

Work to take place on Sterling trail 

The Siskiyou Upland Trails Association is holding its last trail work party of the season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday on the Armstrong Gulch section of the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail, south of Jacksonville.

Work party set for Provolt site 

The Applegate Partnership & Watershed Council is hosting a work party from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Provolt Recreation Site, 14171 Williams Highway. 

Work might include trail building and removal of weeds. Tools are available. Snacks and lunch will be provided.

Volunteers to work on Babyfoot Lake trail 

Join the Siskiyou Mountain Club for a work party to help maintain the trail to Babyfoot Lake in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness west of Selma, from 7 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday. 

No experience is necessary. Tools and training are provided. A shuttle from Gold Hill is available.
