The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office announced this week that 38-year-old Korrey Johnson was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree sexual abuse and three counts of first-degree encouraging sex abuse.

The sentencing by Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Ravassipour will be followed by 75 months of post-prison supervision and the requirement that Johnson register as a sex offender, submit to DNA and HIV testing, pay restitution to the victim and forfeit his electronic devices.

An investigation into Johnson began in 2020 and again in 2023 after a forensic interview of his victim by the Jackson County Children’s Advocacy Center. The victim at that time provided details of sexual abuse by Johnson in 2017.
Johnson was arrested in September 2024, charged with second-degree unlawful sexual penetration and first-degree sex abuse for the 2017 incident. Following his arrest, a tablet belonging to Johnson, believed to contain images of child exploitation, was located and found to hold images of child pornography, leading to multiple additional charges of first-degree encouraging child sex abuse.

Drug-trafficking sentence

The DA’s office announced Tuesday that 30-year-old Marya Miranda of Jackson County was sentenced to four years, two months in prison and three years post-prison supervision for her role in a major drug-trafficking case.

Miranda pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful delivery of fentanyl related to a two-year investigation of a large-scale drug-trafficking organization that culminated in January with law enforcement’s seizure of large amounts of narcotics and firearms. Miranda, who police said had “substantial involvement,” bought and sold ounces of fentanyl weekly and was one of 15 indicted for their role in the organization.

During investigations in both 2017 and 2020, Miranda admitted to possessing and selling large amounts of heroin and was found in possession of digital scales, packaging and thousands in currency.

Child sex abuse sentence

A case involving Medford transient Anthony James Parker, 30, brought a 70-month prison sentence last week in Douglas County Circuit Court.

Parker, a resident of Rogue Retreat in Medford at the time of his arrest, made headlines in January after he was arrested by Oregon State Police at the Manzanita rest area in Grants Pass on charges including sexual abuse.

Police found Parker in a vehicle with two teen girls, ages 16 and 17. Court records indicate that the girls’ mothers were contacted by police who learned that the 16-year-old, later determined to be pregnant, allegedly with Parker’s child, had parental permission to be with Parker while the 17-year-old’s mother was unaware of Parker.

Police later searched Parker’s phone and located messages and graphic images that provided evidence of sexual activity with both girls, according to court records.

Parker was initially arrested on 32 counts of second-degree sexual abuse, two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, one count of encouraging child sexual abuse and one count of online sexual corruption of a child.

Douglas County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen Johnson convicted Parker for one count of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse. The remaining 18 counts were dismissed by the court.
