Medford police say a person of interest is in custody after an afternoon shooting on the south side of Hawthorne Park.

“At this time, we are not looking for anyone involved in this case,” a Wednesday afternoon Facebook post said. “A person of interest has been identified and is currently in custody. This investigation continues and we will provide more information as it becomes available. Main Street has reopened, while 8th Street (between Riverside and Main) remains closed.”

Medford police are investigating a shooting near the south side of Hawthorne Park, authorities said Wednesday afternoon.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation and locating the suspect. The names of the involved are not being released at this time,” a release said.

Police said 8th and Main streets in downtown Medford are currently closed, with the closure expected to be extended.

“Please avoid the area and use alternate routes,” the release said.
