Travis Howard, principal of Eagle Point Middle School, has died, the school district said Tuesday morning.

In a post directed to the “EPSD9 Community,” school officials said: “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Travis Howard, Principal of Eagle Point Middle School. We understand that this sudden loss can be difficult for our community, impacting both our students and staff.

“At EPMS, we have adjusted our schedule to support our students and have mobilized additional resources, including counselors and a chaplain, to our campus, the release said. “We recognize that grief can take many forms and we understand that our students and staff members may need extra support to express themselves during this challenging time.
