First Friday Art Walk

Stroll the galleries, studios and restaurants and take in the visual and flavorful delights in downtown Ashland and the Historic Railroad District from 5 to 8 p.m. the first Friday of every month. This free, year-round community event is filled with a diverse array of artwork, eclectic visual delights, intimate music, artist demonstrations, refreshments and conversation. The experience continues to grow as you visit each gallery and studio. Art walk maps are available at any of the venues. American Trails: The gallery, located in the Columbia Hotel, 250 E. Main St., Ashland, features art and crafts of the Indigenous peoples in North and South America. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. See americantrails.com or call 541-482-2553.

Art & Soul Ashland: The gallery features paintings in a variety of media and styles, pottery, photography and more by local and regional artists. Throughout the month of March see a group exhibition by member artists, “Earth & Sky.” Art & Soul Ashland, 247 E. Art du Jour Gallery: See exhibits by local artists in myriad media such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, pen-and-ink, Conté crayon, collage, sculpture, photography, mixed media and more. The gallery, at 213 E. Main St., Medford, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. Private viewings are available outside open business hours by reservation. Art on First: Throughout March, check out the exhibition “All Things Photography,” featuring wildlife and landscape photographs by DanElster and Tim Hallam. The gallery, located at 20 S. Art Presence Art Center: The gallery, at 206 N. Fifth St., Jacksonville, features work by member artists in a variety of media including oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic and fabric. During the month of March, see work by Featured Member Artist Suzan Hatch and Featured Guest Artist Susan Migliore. The gallery is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays. Ashland Art Works: The gallery features the work of local artists in a variety of media, including ceramics, woodwork, fiber arts, jewelry and garden art. During the month of March, see mixed media artworks by Trevor Cheadle in the Community Gallery. Columbia Hotel: Currently featured at the Columbia Hotel are installations by Eyliana Gibson in the exhibition “Illuminated, A Trunk Show.” Check it out during Ashland’s First Friday Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the hotel, 262 1/2 E. Grants Pass Museum of Art: The museum, located upstairs at 229 S.W. Gypsy Road Studio: The two-story gallery, located at 369 E. Main Street, Ashland, offers a global experience of international and local artwork, vintage and artisan jewelry, rare global antiquities, home decor, collectibles and artisan pieces and a contemporary salon-style art gallery. Oak Leaf Studio: Located at 247 Oak St., Ashland, Oak Leaf Studio is the working and gallery space of local artist Leif Trygg, who works in a variety of media, including pastel, watercolor, acrylic and digital imaging. Phree Gallery 144: See work by local artists at the Phree Gallery, a contemporary gallery space, located at the Phoodery, 208 N. Main St., Phoenix. New exhibitions will be on display the second Friday of each month and a Phoenix “Second Phriday” celebration will be held with live music. Rogue Gallery & Art Center: The gallery, featuring work by local artists, at 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford, is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. See work by Betty LaDuke in the exhibit “Bringing The World Together: Build Bridges, Not Walls” in the Main Gallery through April 18. Schneider Museum of Art: Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art, 555 Indiana St. Ashland, will exhibit “Other World/s” through March 16, featuring artists Heather Lee Birdsong, Ben Buswell, Alex Ito and Stacy Jo Scott. “Other World/s” is an attempt to capture the essence of an alternate or parallel universe. Science fiction Patrick Collier serves as the essayist for the exhibit. The museum displays a rotating slate of exhibitions focused on historical and contemporary perspectives of art and progressive work by local, nationally and internationally-recognized artists. ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum: Throughout March, see digital paintings by Morgan Gaines featuring compositions inspired by flora, fauna and indigenous culture. The museum gallery, 1500 E. Talent Gallery: The new Talent Gallery, 111 Talent Ave., Talent, occupies the restored historic Malmgren Garage. Twenty member artists show a wide range of styles and mediums including painting, original prints, ceramics, photography and fossil sculptures. New works are added monthly. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays. At noon every Sunday, artists will give a talk about their art.
