Edward Lee Mayfield Jr.

June 20, 1931 – December 13, 2024

Edward Lee Mayfield Jr., 93, peacefully rode off into his final sunset on December 13, 2024. Born on June 20, 1931, in Chetopa, KS, Ed lived a life of faith, devotion to family, and cowboy grit.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Joan; children Linda, Bill, Wynn, Laney, and Lori; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother Robert; and sister Roberta.

Ed attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, gaining recognition as an All-Around Cowboy on the rodeo team. In 1955, he married Joan Knight, and they moved to Southern Oregon in 1960, where Ed managed and later purchased the Double D Ranch in Eagle Point. A respected rancher, breeder, trainer, and world-renowned judge, Ed left a lasting mark on the horse industry and his community, earning numerous accolades for his expertise and generosity.

Ed was a mentor and storyteller who inspired many through 4-H leadership, an influential board member for the Jackson County Fairgrounds, and his timeless cowboy wisdom.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Trail Christian Fellowship.
