A 30-year-old Selma man who worked as a teacher for schools in Jackson and Josephine counties was arrested by Jackson County sheriff’s deputies Friday for alleged sex abuse against a former student.

Jesse Rex Orndoff was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on 10 counts each of second-degree sex abuse, third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Friday evening. Bail information nor Orndoff’s jail status was available Friday night.

On Thursday, a woman reported that she was the victim of alleged sexual abuse perpetrated by her teacher and coach, Orndoff, while she was a student at Rogue River Junior-Senior High School. The victim is no longer a student at the school, the release said.

The victim reported that the alleged sexual abuse occurred over the span of several years, while she was between the ages of 15 and 17, according to the sheriff’s office.

Orndoff no longer works at Rogue River Junior-Senior High School but was most recently employed with the Rogue Christian Academy in Grants Pass, the release said. Sheriff’s officials said in the release that both schools are cooperating with the investigation.

According to the website for Rogue Christian Academy, Orndoff led the math and science departments for the school.

Oregon court records show Orndoff filed for divorce from his former wife in 2022.

Investigators believe Orndoff might have additional victims, the release said. People with information are asked to contact Detective David Seese at the JCSO Tip Line: 541-774-8333.
