From the editor’s desk: Rogue Valley Times moves into its third year; some changes coming, and some recent stories

Published 3:15 am Saturday, February 8, 2025

The Rogue Valley Times celebrated its second anniversary this past week.

We’re proud to say that we continue to provide quality local journalism, and we look forward to covering stories about people in the valley and around Southern Oregon as we move into our third year of operation.

The Times launched Feb. 6, 2023, online with a committed crew of reporters, editors, photographers and a host of community contributors who provided us with columns, theater reviews and more. Since then, the Times has maintained a strong presence on the local news scene, winning statewide awards and offering unique coverage that readers can find nowhere else. It’s stories from our cities and towns that could go unreported but for the hard work and organization of our reporters and editors, and it’s all aided by the connections we’ve built with the people in our region.

We honestly would have celebrated more this past week, but the tide of local news came first.

Monday’s snowstorm kept staff busy following road closures, school delays and eventual closures, plus power outages throughout the region. It was a full day’s work Monday to post breaking news and keep stories updated with the latest numbers on snow forecasts and the number of Pacific Power customers who were in the dark. That continued daily through Wednesday night and into Thursday as new developments arose, and our readers flocked to the updated stories online and on social media.

It’s all part of what we do.

Please continue to join us on our journey. We pledge to provide our readers with critical local content, from news and sports to opinion and arts and entertainment — a complete package that is affordable to subscribers and worthwhile to our community.

Newsletter changes to come

We’re transitioning to a new newsletter platform, and the “From the Editor’s Desk” weekly column will be put on hiatus beginning next week. We plan for it to return at a later date. Also, we plan to continue our “Breaking News” newsletter throughout the transition, as able, and continue to provide local readers with important updates.
