- Crater's Sage Winslow floats a shot up over Eagle Point's Kady Ledbetter during Tuesday's game in Central Point.
Crater backcourt mates Sage Winslow and Taylor Young were on top of their games Tuesday night, spearheading yet another runaway win by the top-ranked Comets with a 93-31 showing over Eagle Point.
Using high basketball IQs and relentless motors by the lead guards, Crater was able to speed the girls basketball game up and make things uncomfortable for the Eagles in earning a 26th straight win in the local rivalry.
Winslow helped get the Comets (22-1, 10-0 MWL) off to a fast start with nine of her 25 points in the first quarter, which saw Crater build a 27-10 lead by the end of the frame.
The frenzied intensity only built from there, with Young netting 10 of her game-high 31 points in the second quarter to help the Comets clamp down on the Eagles (11-9, 4-5).
Tuesday’s outing marked the fourth time this season that Crater eclipsed the 90-point mark.
Winslow, a Southern Oregon University-bound senior, finished with a triple-double after also producing 13 assists and 12 steals. Young, a junior, was just off that mark after she registered nine steals and eight assists.
Addi Dippel collected 15 points and Lydia Traore had 10 points and four rebounds for Crater.
Emary Haning went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line to lead Eagle Point with 10 points, while Kady Lindstrom added eight points.
The Eagles, who were hindered by a host of turnovers, last earned a victory over Crater on Jan. 15, 2013.
