Elected officials and citizens will hold a town hall in White City calling for the repeal of fire maps proposed by state lawmakers under Senate Bill 678.

The town hall is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at White Mountain Middle School, located at 550 Wilson Way in White City.

State Senator Noah Robinson, Rep. Emily McIntire, Jackson County Commissioner Colleen Roberts and other elected officials will be present at the town hall, and retired land consultant Bob Hart — who is in opposition to SB 678 — will present on the senate bill.

The bill would undo wildfire protection provisions adopted in SB 762. Opponents to the senate bill see it as detrimental and placing an unfair burden on rural residents.

“Property owners are being forced to decide if they can continue to afford to live on their property,” Robinson said. “We need to repeal these maps and all the attached laws, now.”

All those affected will be encouraged to file appeals to the wildfire mapping bill, with March 8 being the final weekend to appeal before the March 10 deadline.
