Bonnie Lynn Gunter
January 21, 1953 – January 27, 2024
Bonnie Lynn Gunter, 71, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024 after a heroic six-month battle with pancreatic cancer at her home in Medford, Oregon with family members by her side. Bonnie was born on January 21, 1953 in Ashland, Oregon. In December 1999 she moved to Medford where she lived for the rest of her life.
Bonnie worked at the Kogap plywood mill for thirteen years, then as a Jackson County Park Ranger for twenty years, a job that she truly loved. After retiring, Bonnie spent countless hours volunteering at the Southern Oregon Humane Society, where she made many new and lasting friendships. It seems that no matter where Bonnie went, people were just naturally attracted to her outgoing personality and warm and caring nature. In addition to caring for the animals, she did maintenance work on the facilities, such as fixing gates and building enclosures to keep the animals safe and warm during the winter.
In her spare time, Bonnie enjoyed camping and exploring the great outdoors with family and friends and going for long walks with her dogs.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn (Art) McKinney, her son, James (Jim) Gunter, her daughter Terri Lankford, her brother, Michael (Mike) Gunter, her sister Brenda Trauter, her stepdaughters, Kelly Hall and Julia Van Dyke, and her stepson, Brien McKinney. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Special thanks should go to her sister-in-law, Diane Sly who attended many of Bonnie’s doctor visits and spent countless hours helping Bonnie during her illness.
Instead of flowers, the family asks that anyone wanting to make a donation, to send it to the Southern Oregon Humane Society in her name.
