Travel Medford is looking for volunteers to help at the annual Heart of the Rogue Festival Oct. 13-14 at Pear Blossom Park in downtown Medford. Volunteers are needed on Friday and Saturday for setup, general information concierge, road closure assistance and more. A volunteer information meeting will be held Oct. 12, and volunteers will be given a T-shirt and food voucher. This is a short-term volunteer commitment. AARP is looking for volunteers for its Community Action Team in Southern Oregon. “Help make the community where you live, work, and play the best it can be for people of all ages and abilities. Age Wise Age Well is seeking compassionate volunteers to provide peer counseling to older adults who are experiencing issues related to aging such as grief, loss, anxiety, isolation, adjusting to new illness, and many others. No experience needed. Volunteer counselors are trained to meet with clients one on one and provide emotional support and guidance to seniors referred to the program. This opportunity is only for volunteers 55 and older.

The Call-A-Ride medical transportation program is in need of volunteer drivers to transport local seniors to their dialysis appointments in Jackson County. Drivers use their own vehicles, mileage reimbursement is provided, and the volunteers choose their own schedule week to week. This opportunity is only for volunteers 55 and older.

Classroom help needed — middle school wood shop. Looking for a volunteer with experience using wood shop tools that can help support middle school children as they learn to use tools safely and correctly in a project-based learning setting. Teaching experience not necessary, but people must be experienced in woodworking. Must pass a background check. Hours vary from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday–Friday. Must be age 55+.

Hopeful Secondhand Thrift Shop by Rogue Retreat is looking for volunteers to work at the “fix-it table” to test electronics and small kitchen appliances. Volunteers to help sort and price donations are needed. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. Volunteers are needed to help pick up donations. Hours are flexible, and training is provided. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The Craterian Theater strives to enhance the cultural opportunities across Southern Oregon. It could not exist without the generous support of the incredible volunteers, who might usher for a performance, work in the Concession Cafe, assist in the Box Office or participate in the Annual Gingerbread Jubilee and Community Tour.

The Food & Friends Meals on Wheels and Senior Meals program provides hot, nutritious meals and a friendly visit to hundreds of homebound seniors. Meals are served from 10 a.m. to noon Monday-Friday. Home delivery drivers and kitchen help are needed at various locations in Jackson and Josephine counties, including Ashland, Central Point, Eagle Point, Jacksonville, Medford, Rogue River, Talent and White City. The Foster Grandparent Program is looking for older adult volunteers who have a passion for helping children to succeed. Become a classroom volunteer. Foster Grandparent volunteers are tutors, mentors and friends to children. Enrich young lives by sharing your knowledge and lived experiences through one-on-one and small group activities. The Friends of the Medford Library is seeking an energetic community member to serve as the treasurer on its Board of Directors. The treasurer has primary responsibility for all financial activity for the organization, including managing all financial transactions, preparing monthly financial reports, working with the Board and Book Shop Management Team to provide advice on handling of funds (including development of policies and internal control), preparing an annual budget, and serving as the primary financial liaison with the Medford Library. The position normally requires 10-15 hours per month.

Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity is in need of construction volunteers. Right now, they are building every week on Tuesdays and Fridays. The current projects are in Rogue River with Medford and Ashland builds starting soon. Habitat also is working on ramps and critical home repair projects all around Jackson County. You do not need construction experience to join our crew — Habitat will train you. Long-term Care Ombudsman is looking for volunteers to advocate for the rights and dignity of the elderly and disabled living in licensed long-term care facilities. The mission is to protect individual rights, enhance quality of life, improve care and promote dignity for residents. Local training and support provided, plus flexible hours and mileage reimbursement. You don’t have to be an expert; you just have to care.

Rogue Retreat is looking for volunteers to help provide guidance and care for children, ages infant to 12 years old. Volunteers are needed to watch the children of the Life Skills Class Participants while their parents are in class for two hours each month. Volunteers will play games and make crafts with the children. Volunteers should be able to communicate well with young children, have patience and be able to pick up a small child if needed.

ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum has a huge variety of volunteer opportunities available year-round in Ashland. Their mission is to promote the dignity, quality of life and self-determination of seniors and adults with disabilities. Volunteer opportunities include Senior Advisory Council, Disaster Registry volunteers and Health Promotion Class coach. Free training is provided.

Interested in becoming a Medicare expert and providing a crucial service to residents of Jackson County? Become a SHIBA Volunteer Counselor. Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance counselors are volunteers that offer free, objective and local one-on-one health insurance counseling and assistance to people and families with Medicare. SHIBA’s success is built on a network of certified counselors who volunteer all across Jackson County. Volunteers are trained to provide information about Medicare, including what health and prescription drug plans are available in our community. Volunteers learn to help with Medicare appeals and complaints. No experience is necessary. Volunteers are taught how to identify and prevent wrongful billing, and fraud, waste and abuse.

St. Vincent de Paul is seeking a barber to volunteer for two hours a month on either the first or second Tuesday or Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. providing haircuts for the homeless. An indoor location and a barber chair are provided.

St. Vincent de Paul is also seeking people who would be willing to be “on call” for the kitchen, to cover for people who are on vacation or otherwise unable to make their shift. Kitchen staff work generally from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

St. Vincent de Paul in Medford seeks volunteers to help staff its Urban Rest Stop. The rest stop is open Monday through Friday, providing showers and washers and driers to clients who do not have access to these facilities. Volunteers also are needed to fill numerous positions in the Thrift Store (Monday through Saturday), including cashiers and intake personnel. Training is provided, and volunteers can work a few hours or a few days a week.

VA SORCC (Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics) is seeking volunteers to serve at the Camp White Military Museum. Volunteers are needed to help with day-to-day operations of the museum including collecting donations, maintaining displays, coordinating security and cataloguing donated artifacts.

VA SORCC (Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics) is also seeking volunteers to serve as greeters at the Camp White Military Museum. Volunteers will greet visitors and manage the sign-in log, answer and record visitor questions, and perform occasional light clean up duties of museum.
