A pair of Ashland proposals — one allowing city officials to appoint certain positions, the other issuing a new levy for the fire district protecting the Wimer community — appear to be passing, according to unofficial primary election results released at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
A Three Rivers School bond impacting a small number of Jackson County residents, however, appeared to be failing.

And Measure 15-228, which allows the Ashland police chief to designate a sergeant-at-arms at City Council meetings when the chief cannot attend, was passing with 86.73% of the votes in favor out of 5,011 votes cast.
The Tuesday evening results are unconfirmed. The Jackson County Elections Office has until May 28 to collect mailed ballots with a May 21 or earlier postmark, and another three weeks to resolve challenged ballots due to signatures or other issues. Final election results must be certified by June 17.
Measure 15-229, the five-year $1.35-per-thousand levy for Evans Valley Fire District 6 protecting the rural community of Wimer outside Rogue River, was passing Tuesday by 17.3 points, 58.6% to 41.3%. Some 461 votes cast in favor have been counted out of 786 votes received.
