DENVER — A defendant on trial jumped to his death from one of the upper floors inside the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse in downtown Denver on Thursday morning and injured two other people, officials said.

Denver police initially reported that a person jumped or fell inside the building at 8:07 a.m. Officials updated that around 10:23 a.m. to say investigators believed that the person, an adult male, had jumped.

Matt Jablow, spokesman for the Denver District Attorney’s Office, told The Denver Post that the person who killed himself was the defendant in an ongoing trial at the courthouse. Jablow declined to identify the man or say what he’d been charged with.

The two other people who were injured in the incident were taken to a hospital, police said. Officials said those injuries appeared to be minor.

The courthouse was closed after the incident, Colorado Judicial Department spokeswoman Suzanne Karrer said.

Dustin Martin, who arrived at the courthouse shortly after the man jumped, said he saw a woman security guard carried out of the building on a stretcher.

“Shortly after I arrived, they started carrying in curtains to block the surrounding area around the security check, which I would assume that is where the jumper is,” he said.

Police said a death investigation was underway.

All court proceedings scheduled for Thursday at the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse were rescheduled, Karrer said.

Denver County Court proceedings in the Denver City and County Building and the Van-Cise Simonet Detention Center took place as scheduled, spokeswoman Carolyn Tyler said.
