UPDATE: Fire west of Lost Creek Lake 75% lined, 20% mopped up, ODF says

Crews have lined about 75% of the fire now burning west of Lost Creek Lake, according to a 4:25 p.m. update on the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Southwest Oregon District Facebook page.

Crews have also managed to mop up about 20% of the blaze, which ODF determined was sparked by lightning from Saturday’s thunderstorm.

“Firefighters are continuing to make progress on this incident and will remain on scene until it’s 100% lined and mopped up tonight,” the update said.

An earlier update said that crews had kept the fire within a roughly 3-acre footprint.

On Sunday morning, Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 helicopters had been called in to douse the flames, the first release said. An air attack plane and additional ground resources had also been deployed to assist firefighters, who had trouble reaching the fire due to its location in a “steep, remote area,” the release said.

The latest ODF update on the Lost Creek Lake fire said it would be the last unless conditions change.
