Born in Nanticoke, PA, Margaret was the youngest of seven children. At the age of 12, her family moved to Panorama City, CA. She graduated from Van Nuys High School and was employed at Prudential Insurance.
Margaret married the love of her life, Christopher Sottrel, in 1955 and had three children: Tom, Carolyn, and Susan. The family loved going to Disneyland and other amusement parks and zoos. They lived in various cities: Saugus CA, Sacramento CA, Yucca Valley CA, and later the retirement community of Sun City AZ. Margaret had 35 wonderful years of marriage, till her husband’s passing in 1991. Her beloved son, Tom, passed away in 1992.
Margaret moved to Phoenix OR in 2006 to be near her daughter. In 2020, the devastating Almeda fire caused the complete loss of her home and belongings, so she moved into her daughter’s vacant Medford house to make a fresh start. In January, 2024, after a broken hip required full-time care, she was welcomed into her family’s home in Ashland OR and received plenty of TLC.
Margaret died at age 90 of a brain aneurysm. Her passing was peaceful and painless, with family by her side. She loved music, playing the organ, crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She had a strong Christian faith that carried her through life’s daily hardships.
Survived by: daughter Carolyn Burns (Marty), daughter Susan McGee (Ken), grandson Bryan McGee (Kendra), grandson David McGee (Danielle), granddaughter Amber McGee, great-grandson Brayden McGee, plus many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Margaret was loved by family and friends and will always be remembered for her kind, generous spirit and warm heart. She will be greatly missed.
