OUTDOOR ADVENTURES: Fall activity guides, biking events and more

Parks departments in Central Point, Ashland and Medford have compiled online recreation activity guides that are packed with details about upcoming classes, events and outings. The guides also are available in paper form at city offices.
The cities of Medford, Ashland and Central Point are publishing fall activity guides that include information about classes, events, outings and more.

Medford parks survey open until Monday
The city of Medford is inviting the public to participate in an online survey to help guide planners working on a new parks master plan. Take the survey, which ends Monday, at bit.ly/471d1R8.
The City Council is expected to view plan recommendations during a study session Sept. 26.
Learn about Grants Pass/Rogue River path at open house
The Oregon Department of Transportation is hosting an open house 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Grants Pass City Hall, 101 NW A St., concerning a possible biking-hiking path between Grants Pass and the city of Rogue River.
Planners are seeking public input on alternative routes on both sides of the Rogue River. The path would connect with the Rogue River Greenway trail in Rogue River, which extends to Gold Hill and might someday connect with the Bear Creek Greenway in Central Point.
A second open house is expected to take place in February. Volunteers to serve on committees are being sought. For more information, visit grantspassoregon.gov or the project’s website at bit.ly/3SX2DUv.
In a related matter, the Rogue River Greenway Foundation’s annual Ride the Rogue cycling event and fundraiser is set for Sept. 28 beginning and ending at Palmerton Park in Rogue River. The event includes bicycle rides of 20 miles and more. All abilities are welcome.
Cost is $45-$85, depending on which ride is chosen. An after-ride party with music and refreshments is scheduled. Get details at ridetherogue.com. For more information, call 800-541-0925.
Ride the Rim event set for Sept. 7 and 14
The annual Ride the Rim bicycling event is scheduled to take place Sept. 7 and 14 at Crater Lake National Park. The event, which is free of charge, allows visitors to ride at their own pace along 25 vehicle-free miles of Rim Drive.

Relatedly, the north entrance to Crater Lake National Park remained closed as of Monday because of the Middle Fork Fire, which is burning in the park’s northwest corner. Visitors should use the park’s south entrance, off Highway 62.

Shady Cove birthday celebration is Sept. 7
Shady Cove will celebrate its 52nd birthday with a celebration set for 3-6 p.m. Sept. 7 at Aunt Caroline’s Park, 22451 Highway 62. There will be a DJ, sack races, chalk art and family-friendly party games along with cotton candy, snow cones and cupcakes.
Eagle Point to host Music on Main Street on Sept. 9
Eagle Point is hosting an event, Music on Main Street, 6-9 p.m. Sept. 9, when Main Street will be blocked off near Bob Moore Park and there will be dancing in the street, food trucks and public safety displays.
Central Point to host artisan, Hispanic heritage events
The city of Central Point will host its annual Made in Southern Oregon event Sept. 14 and its Hispanic Heritage Celebration Sept. 20:
• The Made in Southern Oregon event is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 on Pine Street, between First and Sixth streets. It will showcase more than 100 vendors. Food and drink will be available.
• The Hispanic Heritage Celebration is set for 5-9 p.m. Sept. 20 at Twin Creeks Park, 555 Twin Creeks Crossing Loop. It will offer food trucks, live music, bounce houses, loteriía games, prizes and information booths.
Musical performances will include mariachi music by Jovita Enríquez; Ballet Folklórico Ritmo Alegre; DJ Junior and his lights robot; and the local Spanish rock band Combustión.

Cave Junction Labor Day Festival is this weekend
The Illinois Valley Lions 51st annual Labor Day Festival is set Friday through Monday at Jubilee Park in Cave Junction, featuring a parade, games, food, vendors and tuff truck competition, among other activities.
Tuff truck races start at noon daily. Vehicles race against time over a dirt course of curves and bumps. The parade starts at 10 a.m. Sept. 2 and travels through downtown.
Take a walk to view salmon on Upper Rogue River
KS Wild and Rogue Riverkeeper are hosting a salmon walk 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 16 at McGregor Park along the Upper Rogue River. The park is near the Cole Rivers Fish Hatchery, 200 Cole M Rivers Drive, off Highway 62.
Participants will stop at locations along the river to look for spawning Chinook salmon and drive a short distance to where Crowfoot Road crosses Big Butte Creek to view spawning fish visible from the bridge.
Topics of discussion will include the life history of salmon, what makes the Rogue River an important habitat to sustain the species, and the work Rogue Riverkeeper does to protect the river.

Tour Jacksonville’s historic district
A free outdoor walking tour of Jacksonville’s historic landmark district is offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, leaving from City Hall, 205 N. Fifth St. The tours last about one hour and cover about 1 mile.

Take a stroll in Butte Falls
The Butte Falls Walking Group takes weekly hour-long strolls on Thursdays at 1 p.m., leaving from the Butte Falls Library, 626 Fir Ave. The strolls are an opportunity to exercise outdoors and socialize. The group meets rain or shine. Call the library at 541-865-3511 for more information.
Tour an herb farm
Oshala Farm, an organic herb farm in the Applegate Valley, is hosting a free walking tour 3-4 p.m. Sept. 11. Participants should wear closed-toed walking shoes and bring a reusable water bottle or tea cup if you’d like a cup of herbal tea. Register at least 48 hours in advance. Japanese Garden hosts moon-gazing event
The Ashland Japanese Garden is hosting “Otsukimi — Moon Gazing Festival” 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 15.
