Thunderstruck: The 28th annual Thunderstruck Xtreme Bike & Car Show will converge on the lawn behind the Rogue Regency Inn & Suites, 2300 Biddle Road in Medford, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Hosted by Thunderstruck Custom Bikes, the show features a car and bike show open to any and all “two-, three- and four-wheel” works of art. A highlight of the show comes when at least one custom-made bike is presented to a combat-wounded veteran each year by Thunderstruck Custom Bikes. All show proceeds benefit Boys & Girls Club members for Jackson and Josephine counties. The event will feature live music by Gist, a beer garden, hot rods, raffles, caricature artist, face painting, vendors and more. Living History Tour: Actors representing the early Beekman family will talk about changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution, Victorian architectural and design innovations, and insights into upper-class Jacksonville lifestyle during the late 1800s. Low-cost Pet Vaccines: Make an appointment for your pet to get vaccinated and microchipped the third Saturday of each month. This drive-thru, appointment-only clinic is open to dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Vaccines available for dogs are rabies and the vaccine for distemper, distemper, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, and the parvovirus. The FVRCP vaccine available for cats is for panleukopenia (feline distemper), rhinotracheitis, and calicivirus. Reservations must be made by Friday before the scheduled clinic. All vaccinations are $20 each; microchips are $25 per pet. This is a cash-only clinic. All pets must be in good health. Pets that are on antibiotics, in heat or on cortisone products cannot be vaccinated. Historic Bank Tour: Step behind the counter of the oldest financial institution in the Pacific Northwest — Jacksonville’s 1863 Beekman Bank Museum — from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through Sept. 1, at the Beekman Bank Museum, 110 W. Interact with costumed docents sharing stories of late 19th-century banking practices, gold shipping and handshake deals; step behind the counter and peer in drawers containing old checks, stage schedules and paperwork; and enter the vault that stored millions in gold. Author Talk: Ashland Together will host Mitzi Loftus and her son David Loftus, who will talk about Mitzi’s book “From Thorns to Blossoms A Japanese American Family in War and Peace,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Carpenter Hall, 44 S. Ashland resident Mitzi Asai Loftus lived through the harrowing actions of the United States government’s Executive Order 9066, which incarcerated roughly 120,000 Japanese-Americans between 1942 to 1945 on the basis of their ancestry. Her story is one of prejudice and perseverance as the 91-year-old’s expanded memoir delves into her account as a second-generation American in Oregon. Mitzi and David Loftus will discuss Mitzi’s book and personal experiences as a 10-year-old incarcerated for the “crime” of having Japanese lineage and her subsequent rise to seek a college education, teach students across the world and rekindle her heritage.
