- Meadowlark Comic Con will have plenty of visitors dressed as superheroes, including Meadowlark Comic Con's mascots, Colossus Girl and Meadowlark.
Southern Oregon’s comic book fans and lovers of cosplay (dressing up as characters and superheroes) and pop culture are in for a treat in late July.
Meadowlark Comic Con will bring a wide range of programs, from special guests participating in Q-and-A panel discussions to a variety of vendors to a cosplay contest showcasing the awesome costumes of the attendees.
This year, Meadowlark Comic Con will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28, at Rogue X, 901 Rossanley Drive, Medford.
This year’s event will be even bigger than prior years’ by being hosted at the recently built Rogue X, a Medford sports and events complex that opened in January.
“We have entertainment for the whole weekend,” said Dave Haworth, president of business operations for Meadowlark Comic Con. “We’ve been doing this since 2018, bringing celebrity guests, vendors, food and lots of fun.”
Tickets cost between $12 and $80, ranging from single-day general admission tickets to two-day family packs.
Discounted tickets can only be purchased on Meadowlark Comic Con’s website ahead of the event, and the earliest-arriving visitors will receive free posters and other merchandise from organizers, according to Haworth.

This year’s comic con will include multiple celebrity guests, including Lew Temple, Dave Fennoy, Andy Merrill, Stephen Costantino, Luis Rivera, Floydman Sumner and Mark Arnold.
“Lew Temple, we’re excited to have him and he is a high-caliber actor. He’s an Oscar-nominated type of actor and has been in several serious movies and done westerns and different genres like horror,” Haworth said, noting Temple’s roles as Axel in the third season of “The Walking Dead,” Locus Fender in the action movie “Domino” and other credits.
“Dave Fennoy, he’s done so much in regards to voice acting, video games and animation … We have so much gratitude to have him,” Haworth added.
Fennoy has voice acted in numerous video games and animated films such as voicing protagonist Lee Everett in the episodic adventure game “The Walking Dead” and voice acting in fan-favorite games such as Marvel’s “Spider-Man,” “Batman: Arkham Knight” and “Fallout 4.”
Outside of the guest celebrities, over 80 vendors, exhibitors and artists will showcase and sell everything from artwork to comics to collectibles and other merchandise.
“We also have a lot of retro toys, and people love retro toys, and also new collectibles, Funko Pop!, Barbies and everything in between. Whether it’s “Star Wars” or “Doctor Who,” if it’s pop culture, it’s going to be there,” Haworth said.
Meadowlark Comic Con has been around for eight years, drawing in local visitors and attendees from Washington, California and Idaho.
And it wouldn’t be a comic con without ample cosplayers showing off their ornate and sometimes homemade outfits.
“You have a lot of cosplays that are intricate and detailed, a lot of ‘The Mandalorian’ cosplays like off the set of the (Disney) TV show,” Haworth said, adding, “There’s a lot of anime cosplay as well. It’s very diverse and fun to go and take photos with the cosplayers all day.”
Whether it’s the cosplayers or fans of pop culture generally, the event is open to all ages, backgrounds and walks of life.
“Meadowlark is giving something to Medford that’s for everybody,” Haworth said. “It’s something for 5-year-olds and 65-year-olds to enjoy having a good time and getting together.”
The comic con can be difficult to set up and put on for organizers, but being able to provide an inclusive space and making lifelong memories is what makes the effort worth it to Haworth.
“It’s not something you do to make money,” he said. “When you see kids smiling and having fun, that’s the best part about it.”
