Medford police are honoring one of their own more than 90 years after Police Constable George Prescott was shot and killed on a city street.

“Today, we honor Medford Police Constable George Prescott, the only Medford officer to lose his life in the line of duty,” a Facebook post said Sunday. “On March 16, 1933, while serving an arrest warrant on Peach Street, Prescott was shot in the chest.”

The release noted that in 2017, a memorial mosaic sculpture by local artist Karen Rycheck was placed outside the MPD station “to honor Prescott and all those who have served.”

Prescott Park on Roxy Ann Peak is named in his memory, the release said, and he is buried in Eastwood Cemetery, one of Medford’s oldest.
