March 25, 1934 – March 23, 2025
Faye Hutchings was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Friend and Teacher. She brought light, joy and kindness to everyone she met.
Faye Marie Martens was born in Chappell, Nebraska in 1934, to John and Amanda Martens.
Faye taught kindergarten to lucky children for 20 years. Her lifelong commitment to young people continued in retirement as she served as chairperson of the Fairy Godmother Program for its first 10 years, offering scholarships to worthy young recipients in the Rogue Valley.
Many people consider Faye to be the nicest person they have ever known. Roger Hutchings, from Allen, Nebraska, was the love of her life. After meeting in college at Nebraska Wesleyan, they enjoyed many happy decades together in Omaha, Seattle, Tehran and Medford, Oregon. Roger and Faye raised their family in Medford in the happy hilltop home they built together. After 43 years, they moved to the Rogue Valley Manor in 2017. Roger continued to show his love and devotion for Faye through her last years at the Memory Support Center.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, and by her younger brother, John D. Martens. She is survived by Roger, her loving husband of 69 years, children Greg, Nancy and Brent (Chrys), grandchildren Ben (Harriet), Riley, Laney and Sophie, and great granddaughter Jemimah (14 months).
