RVSS deserves thanks for establishing wetland habitat

Rogue Valley Sewer Services board and staff deserve a big thank you for working with community members and organizations to create a vital wetland habitat for migrating shorebirds and to provide public access for wildlife viewing at RVSS’s White City Lagoons off of Kirtland Road.

The mudflat habitat created is rich in food that migrating birds need to refuel on their migration to and from breeding grounds. The site is already attracting a variety of sandpipers, dunlin, dowitchers, yellowlegs, plover and waterfowl, and is frequented daily by birdwatchers.

We can show our appreciation by following the rules for public use that will be posted at the site. Please stay out of restricted areas and park in the designated public parking area.

RVSS should be commended for creating an important community and wildlife amenity in conjunction with providing the public sewer and storm water services they provide.

Medford bike lane plan isn’t beneficial

Please stop causing traffic congestion. Every time lanes are removed, traffic flow slows and congestion grows.

No wonder the council receives “a cool reception from the public” and “In the city’s own online survey, 70% responded negatively to the idea” of expanded bike lanes downtown.

Who rides a bike to go shopping or dining downtown? Buying some furniture, antiques, oil paintings or a tuxedo? Gonna ride a bike for that? Not likely. Going out drinking or dining with friends or family? “Let’s all ride bicycles.” No way.

Looking at the pictured proposal (only two vehicle traffic lanes, RVT 4/17/23), what happens when a family tries to parallel park the family vehicle? Traffic jam.

Road diets suck. Hindering efficient traffic flow and causing traffic congestion is not beneficial for Medford.
