- Crater's Lindsay Siebert, shown creating space leading into the final lap as she won the 800 meters at the Crater Twilight, was also a runaway winner in the 1,500 on Tuesday in Eagle Point.
EAGLE POINT — Crater and Ashland waged a hearty back-and-forth battle on the track for the top spots and Eagle Point managed to score three individual victories during Tuesday’s tri-meet at Eagle Point High.
Team scores were not available as of Wednesday morning but the overall showing was promising especially for the Comets, who were minus a few regulars, and the Grizzlies.
The Crater girls scored a dominant showing in the sprint events as the Comets finished first in 10 of 16 events overall (there were no results posted for triple jump).
Addison Dippel won the 100 meters in 13.69 seconds, while fellow Comet Sage Winslow was equally as dominant in winning the 200 (27.65), Reese Garnica won the 400 (1:05.73), Kara Loftus claimed the 800 (2:38.32) and Lindsay Siebert made it a perfect 5-for-5 to start the running events with a win in the 1,500 in 4:46.88.
Chloe Borchard also set a personal record in winning the 100 hurdles in 18.24.
Eagle Point registered two of its three wins on the girls side, with Ana Avila winning the discus with a throw of 81 feet, 8.5 inches and Vivian Shawnego claiming the javelin in 88-3. Nathan Self-Cordova scored the only boys team victory in the shot put (39-7).
Sophia Cellini reached a personal record to finish first in the long jump at 14-9, while Violet Hering won the 3,000 in 12:55.54 and Flannery Lundgren scored a PR to win the 300 hurdles in 51.49.
Clara Bennett of Crater was the only two-time individual winner after she posted a 29-7 PR in the shot put and tied teammate Claire Davenport at 5-0 in the high jump.
On the boys side, Crater sprinter Nicholas Kube swept the 100 (11.74) and 200 (23.10).
Teammate Jack Sandlin also won both hurdles races after posting a time of 18.13 in the 110 hurdles and 45.68 in the 300 hurdles.
Ashland’s Finley Taylor also was a double-event winner in the 800 (2:10.74) and 1,500 (4:24.75), while teammate Raymond Hart also posted a pair of wins in the discus (104-11) and javelin (134-0).
