Traffic back ups on Foothill Road near the intersection of Cedar Links Drive in March 2023.

Starting Friday, Foothill Road between Lone Pine Road and Cedar Links Drive will be closed on weeknights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and 24/7 on weekends, according to an advisory from the city of Medford.

The closure is anticipated to last through April 28.

A detour will be in place and will direct southbound traffic from Foothill Road to Cedar Links Drive, to Springbrook Road, to Lone Pine Road and back to Foothill Road. Northbound traffic will have the opposite detour.

The detour will be signed with message boards providing advance notice and with detour signing along the route.

Contractors will be performing trenching across Foothill Road at the two Lone Pine Road power substations. They will also be installing large concrete pipes — conduit — that will house power and communication lines between the two substations.

The Medford Foothill Road project will upgrade Foothill Road between Hillcrest and Delta Waters roads. The number of travel lanes within the section of Foothill Road will increase from two lanes to five, including a center turn lane. Other improvements include new bike lanes, sidewalks, storm drains, street lighting, retaining walls and landscaping.

The $62 million Medford Foothill Road project is being constructed in part with a $15 million federal Build Grant received by the city of Medford. Oregon Department of Transportation is administering and inspecting the Foothill Road improvements for Medford.

Construction on the Medford portion of the project from Hillcrest Road to Delta Waters Road is expected to be complete by the end 2026.
