Golden spotlight on all-MWL voting

Ashland senior Izzy Golden shared conference player of the year honors to highlight voting by the Midwestern League boys and girls basketball coaches, with five Rogue Valley players overall earning first-team recognition.

Golden, a 6-foot senior guard, provided a guiding force for the Grizzlies by averaging 14 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 45% from the field.

Golden shared the top MWL boys basketball honor with North Eugene junior Joey Banry.

Ashland teammate Eyera Nogues also earned a spot on the first team, along with Crater junior Ashton Acrey.

Nogues ramped up his play to provide a steady complement to Golden, creating 12 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while connecting on 48% of his shots from the field.

Acrey averaged 16.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game for the Comets.

North Eugene’s Blake Gee was named MWL boys basketball coach of the year.

In all-MWL girls basketball voting, Crater sophomores Sage Winslow and Addison Dippel received first-team recognition after guiding the Comets to a runner-up showing to Springfield.

Winslow averaged 16.4 points, 5.8 steals, 3.5 assists, 2.9 rebounds per game to help propel Crater, while Dippel converted 51% of her 3-point attempts — making 42 on the season — to finish at 8.9 points, 4.1 steals and 4.3 assists per game.

Springfield junior Danaeja Romero-Ah Sam was named MWL girls player of the year and the Millers’ Joe Williamson earned coach of the year honors.
