UPDATED: Air quality moves to moderate, but more smoke could arrive Saturday

Air quality readings in Southern Oregon as of 4:30 p.m.

Air quality readings moved into the moderate category across the Rogue Valley late Friday, but there were pockets of unhealthy air near Ashland with potentially more wildfire smoke to come this weekend.

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality advisory until noon Sunday, saying while conditions would likely improve Friday, “Another increase in smoke is expected Saturday.”

Ashland had the worst readings at 4:30 p.m., while the air quality had improved to moderate or unhealthy for sensitive groups in Talent, Phoenix and Medford, according to the iqair.com website.

Much of the valley had experienced readings in the very unhealthy to hazardous range Thursday night into Friday morning.

Air quality readings were good from Central Point west to Grants Pass.
