With a core group of veterans, the Eagles hope that will also be the case when all is said and done and not just following their first MWL match of the season.

Eagle Point shrugged off a first-set loss to topple North Eugene in four sets Thursday night, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20. The match was the Eagles’ third win in a row, and boosted their overall record to 4-1-1.

Seniors Emma Kness and Baylee Mullen were joined by junior Addison Holcomb in setting the tone with all-around strong outings by all. Kness finished with 10 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and one ace, while Mullen had 11 kills and seven digs and Holcomb contributed 11 kills, 12 digs and one ace.

Helping create such a diverse attack was senior setter Makynlee Schauffler, who dished out 44 assists and came up with 10 digs of her own. Aaliyah O’Brien led EP with 18 digs.

Megan Carr and Thianna Deng-Gomez also played valuable roles for the Eagles, with Carr notching four kills, two digs, two aces and one block and Deng-Gomez chipping in with six kills, two blocks and two digs.

North Eugene dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in MWL play.

FOREST GROVE 4, NORTH MEDFORD 1: At Forest Grove, Matthew Donovan converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to tie the match at 1-all for North Medford but Forest Grove responded with three unanswered goals to secure the victory.

Donovan was fouled after senior Koby Ibarra sailed a through ball to him in the box, allowing the Black Tornado to respond to a penalty kick by Forest Grove in the seventh minute.

The Vikings capitalized on a failed clearance to go up 2-1 in the 34th minute, then scored in the 42nd and 60th minutes to create a cushion.
