SOU finishes strong at Warrior Invitational

SPRINGFIELD — Both Southern Oregon University golf teams produced a pair of top-10 finishers at the Warrior Fall Invitational, leading the Raider men to third place and the women to fourth as the two-day Cascade Conference event concluded Tuesday at Pine Ridge Golf Club.

Freshman Mason Labow and sophomore Ricky Reisner tied for ninth place at 12-over-par in the 61-person, eight-team men’s field. Reisner carded SOU’s best score in Round 3 with a 1-over 73 to climb nine spots on the leaderboard.

The Raider men went 58-over as a team, finishing behind only No. 2-ranked British Columbia (+11) and No. 20 Lewis-Clark State (+47). They finished three strokes ahead of College of Idaho and seven up on Oregon Tech to take third for the second consecutive CCC tournament. Matt Forsyth (+18) was 23rd, Oliver Ausland (+19) tied for 24th and Cruz Kilborn (+21) tied for 27th.

On the women’s side, freshman Keira Cheng wrapped up with an 80 to finish 17-over and in a tie for eighth place. Her two-day stroke total of 161 was the best ever for an SOU women’s golfer in a 36-hole event. Senior Haley Brown was just two strokes back to place 10th in her season debut, carding an 81 in Round 2.

The Raider women shot 100-over collectively, 26 strokes behind first-place British Columbia. Camryn Schaper was 26-over to tie for 13th on the 33-person leaderboard.

UBC produced the men’s medalist, Manu Gandhi (-5), and the women’s medalist, Abigail Chow (+4).
