- Medford police responded Dec. 3 to a reported shooting in a parking lot at the Charles Point Apartments in south Medford. Two people died, police said.
Two people are dead after an early morning shooting at the sprawling Charles Point Apartments complex in south Medford, police said late Sunday.
The Medford Police Department said in an updated news release around 6 p.m. that a second person had died after the shooting. Police said earlier Sunday that one person had died and another shooting victim was in very serious condition at a local hospital.
Detectives are following up on available leads, including identifying and contacting individuals who were on scene at the time, the release said. Police did not identify the victims in the shooting or say if there are any suspects.
“Medford Police and assisting agency detectives continue to work this case in hopes to determine the circumstances surrounding the disturbance leading to the death of these two people,” the release said.
Police responded around 5:40 a.m. Sunday to Highgate Street inside the apartment complex to reports of a disturbance and shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals with gunshot wounds in a parking lot near an apartment in the complex, the release said. Both of the individuals were transported to a local hospital.
Police were on scene Sunday and investigating at the complex that includes hundreds of one-, two- and three-bedroom dwellings.
The shooting Sunday follows a Friday night shooting at Buffalo Wild Wings in north Medford.
Police Sunday night said in the release, “We can confirm that this case is not related to the shooting incident that occurred on Friday, December 1 at Buffalo Wild Wings.”
Medford police reported Saturday morning that an officer on routine patrol heard multiple gunshots at 11:25 p.m. Friday in the vicinity of the restaurant in the 1700 block of Delta Waters Road. A victim was listed in critical condition and had undergone surgery at a local hospital, according to police.
Eighteen-year-old Joseph Larry Lopez of Grants Pass has been charged with attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree assault.
Police believe the confrontation between two groups of people caused the shooting in front of the restaurant, according to an update statement from Medford police.
