Crater caps 3-1 run at Fresno Easter Classic

Crater made good use of its trip down to California this week for the annual Fresno Easter Classic, with the Comets scoring their third baseball win in four outings Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 triumph over Highland High at Clovis North Stadium.
Sophomore right-hander Alex Johnson kept Highland on its heels for Crater (3-4), scattering six hits with eight strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game outing. Johnson threw 52 strikes on 82 pitches in seven innings.
The Comets were able to strike for a pair of runs in the third inning and added another in the fourth inning.
Sophomore second baseman Morgan Austin led Crater by going 2-for-3 with one run scored, while Jimmy Morgan, Cameron Bruce and Caleb Canfield each drove in a run.
NORTH MEDFORD 6, BARLOW 4: At Beaverton, North Medford erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to tip the scales on Day 3 of the Westview Tournament played at Mountainside High.
Jeremiah Robbins hit a two-run double and Kellen Willer added a two-run single to highlight the outburst for the 10th-ranked Black Tornado (7-1). Easton Curtis and Dominic Daffron also supplied RBI efforts in the sixth.
Colton Morgan, Jake Payton, Curtis and Willer had two hits apiece for North.
SANTA BARBARA 13, SOUTH MEDFORD 2: At Phoenix, Ariz., South Medford fell behind early and struggled to get going on Day 3 of the Coach Bob Invitational at Mountain Pointe High.
Kaleb Long walked and was put in scoring position by a double from Tristan Mallari before crossing the plate on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first for the Panthers (3-3). Mallari scored in similar fashion in the sixth inning.
Santa Barbara (12-3) opened a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and later used a two-run home run by Zeke Adderley in the fifth and two-run double by Adderley in the sixth to keep the pressure on.
Kai Mault added three RBIs for the Dons, who got two RBIs apiece from Eric Anthony and Jett Welch in an 11-hit attack.
RIO MESA 6, ASHLAND 0: At Oxnard, Calif., Rio Mesa scored four first-inning runs and limited ninth-ranked Ashland to two hits, one each by sophomores Anthony Albano and Malakai Chandler.
Sophomore pitcher Logan Trivette struck out five in four innings, and freshman Cameron Oakley tossed two scoreless innings for Ashland (2-2).
Damien Valdez went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Rio Mesa (10-5).
WARRENTON 4, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1: Warrenton scored twice in the fifth inning to break a 1-all tie and went on to keep second-ranked Cascade Christian at bay in the opening game of the Challenger Classic at Lithia & Driveway Fields.
Jack Knips had the lone hit by the Challengers (5-1) to lead off the second inning and worked his way around the bases through a hit batter, passed ball and a two-out, bases-loaded walk drawn by Bryson Walker.
Odin Wilson had an RBI groundout in the fifth and Tyson McGrorty followed with an RBI single to put Warrenton (2-2) on top for good. Tyson McGrorty finished 2-for-4 and Talon McGrorty added an RBI single in the seventh, with the latter also holding the Challengers hitless over 2 ⅓ innings with no walks and six strikeouts.
As a team, the Challengers struck out 10 times overall.
