‘Triptychs’: Todd Barton and Bruce Bayard will present a concert series beginning Saturday, May 4 and running every Saturday through June 8, at The DanceSpace, 280 E. Hersey St., Ashland. Each of the concerts will feature a guest artist — Chris Williams, vocals, electronics; Michael Vannice, electronics; David Bithell, trumpet, electronics; Terry Longshore, percussion; and Suzee Grilley, Taiko — along with Bayard’s video, “Triptychs,” which is a continually evolving collage of film clips, stills, word lists and animations. Each evening’s music is created in the moment with the only agreed-to parameter being the duration of the performance. Shows start at 7:30 p.m., except for June 8, which will begin at noon and run for 12 consecutive hours. Tickets are $10, $45 for five shows. The June 8 concert is by donation. Siskiyou Singers: The choir, directed by Mark Reppert, will present “The Definition of Beauty,” a thematic choral celebration inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in the Music Recital Hall, 405 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. Each section of the concert will open with a corresponding Dickinson poem, set to music by American composer Alice Parker. The program will also include Aaron Copland’s setting of “At the River;” “Nootka Paddle Song,” based on a welcoming chant by the indigenous people of British Columbia; Joshua Shank’s “The Boy Who Picked Up His Feet to Fly;” and “The Pasture,” adapted from the poetry of Robert Frost. Music by Eric Clapton, Samuel Barber, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and others will also be featured, along with musical arrangements of poems by E. E. Cummings, W. B. Yeats and more. Musicologist Ed Wight will present a free pre-concert lecture about the music one hour before each concert. Tickets are $25, $5 for students and Oregon Trail Card holders.
