A person may have gone missing on the Rogue River National Recreation Trail, according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.

On late Friday afternoon, someone informed the sheriff’s office they had discovered a backpack and dog leash on the trail, a release issued by the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office found the items Saturday about a mile south of the Grave Creek Boat Ramp.

Evidence suggests the backpack may have been there since Wednesday, the release said.

“The sheriff’s office is concerned the owner of the backpack may have become injured or lost,” the release said. “No missing persons reports have been filed that match the situation, nor is there any evidence of foul play.”

Although the pack did not contain identifying information, it held items that appeared unused and indicated the owner had embarked on a days-long camping trip, the release said.

The sheriff’s office searched the area using verbal callouts, which did not turn up a person or dog, as well as deployed a drone, the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 541-474-5123.
