Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will return to the campaign trail in Michigan on Saturday for his first rally with Ohio Sen. JD Vance after picking Vance to be his running mate.
Trump’s reelection campaign announced the upcoming visit to Grand Rapids on Tuesday, the second day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and three days after a gunman attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The former president will deliver remarks at an event at 5 p.m. Saturday at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, according to the campaign.
“Joe Biden’s failed policies have left a path of death and destruction in Michigan,” a statement from the Trump campaign said. “President Trump will ease the financial pressures placed on households and re-establish law and order in Michigan.”
On Monday, the Republican National Convention opened with delegates nominating Trump for president and Vance, a first-term senator from Ohio, for vice president.
Pete Hoekstra, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, said Monday that Trump is “committed” to winning the battleground state of Michigan this fall.
In 2020, Democratic President Joe Biden carried Michigan by 3 percentage points over Trump, 51%-48%.
Biden campaigned in Detroit on Friday. And Vice President Kamala Harris is visiting Kalamazoo on Wednesday.
