A transient was arrested after allegedly starting a grass fire Monday night in Ashland, police said.
A 9-1-1 call came in at 8:01 p.m. reporting a grass fire near Interstate 5 southbound just north of exit 14, Ashland police Chief Tighe O’Meara said in a Tuesday morning news release.
Ashland Fire & Rescue responded, as did members of the Ashland Police Department and several partner agencies, the release said. The fire was quickly contained, helped in part by the recent wet weather.
“At no point were Ashland homes or other structures threatened, and it was quickly determined that no evacuations were needed,” O’Meara wrote.
A Medford-area transient, Jennifer Paulson, 43, was taken into custody and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of reckless burning, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to the release. Paulson remained in custody at the time of the release.
Ashland’s first responders were assisted on the call by Jackson County Fire District 5, Oregon State Police, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Talent Police Department, Phoenix Police Department and dispatchers at Emergency Communication of Southern Oregon, according to the release.
