Whether it’s Del Rio Vineyards’ Drink Pink campaign donating $5 to a local cancer center for every 6 bottles of Jolee Rose wine sold or the vineyard’s Hike to Fight fundraiser, the winery is pulling out all the stops to support those battling breast cancer.
For the second year, the Hike to Fight fundraiser is returning with a 3-mile leisurely hike through the grapevines with the goal to raise money and “paint the vineyard pink” while honoring breast cancer survivors, those battling the disease currently and those who ultimately lost their lives to it.
The Hike to Fight fundraiser is set to start at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at the vineyard, located at 52 N. River Road, Gold Hill.
It costs $40 per person to participate in the family-friendly hike. Check-in and T-shirt pickup begins at 1 p.m.

Runners are encouraged to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water. Costumes are encouraged, with prizes being awarded to the best outfits.
Due to limited parking at the vineyard, attendees are strongly encouraged to carpool or rideshare. Overflow parking will be available at the lot across Highway 99.
Following the hike, Del Rio will host a Pink Party, which includes live music, food trucks, wine tastings and more.
Funds raised will benefit Asante Foundation’s Cancer Center and Compassion Fund program.
“They provide services for people in need — such as gas money to get to appointments, rent to be able to pay that, basic needs like transportation and whatever helps with those essential needs,” said Jenny Richmond, wine club and compliance manager for Del Rio Vineyards.
“They have top-level technology. We don’t have to drive far away to get that treatment,” said Lindsey Zagar, Del Rio’s marketing and communications manager. “The cancer center is so important. Health care is so valuable, especially with the state-of-the-art cancer center.”
Considering many staff members at Del Rio Vineyards have had loved ones or have been personally affected by breast cancer, the fundraiser event is close to their hearts.
“It’s been an awesome campaign that is so important for us and it’s so great to give back,” Zagar said. “It’s something that we care a lot about.”
“It’s knowing people affected by breast cancer and having a friend who passed away (from breast cancer) last year … I lost my mom to cancer prior,” Richmond said of the motivation to raise money.
For those who can’t make the Hike to Fight fundraiser in person, Del Rio will also offer a virtual hike.
Virtual participants will be sent a T-shirt and can plot their own 3-mile hike wherever they’d like.
“People who bought virtual tickets can hike in their neighborhood, in Arizona or wherever they are,” Richmond said. “We even had one lady share that she was hiking on horseback last year.”
In its first year, the Hike to Fight fundraiser brought in $8,500 to support the Asante Foundation’s Cancer Center and Compassion Fund program.
“It was really cool last year. We planned last minute and we sold out (with approximately 300 attendees),” Richmond said.
This year’s hike has been raised to a maximum of 325 participants, and the vineyard has already sold nearly 100 tickets.
“We haven’t done much promotion yet either,” Zagar said.
Outside of the hike, Del Rio Vineyards’ Drink Pink Campaign picks back up in October for the 13th year in a row to continue raising funds to counter breast cancer.
“It’s just such a great way to give back,” Zagar said.
