Christopher Shane Boyce, charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter in connection to a death investigation at the Medford Lowe’s parking lot in late April, appeared by video link in Jackson County Circuit Court on Thursday afternoon.

Judge Christine Herbert set Boyce’s pretrial hearing conference for 9 a.m. Nov. 24, and Boyce will remain in the Jackson County Jail without bail.

Boyce, 34, was arrested at a residence in the 5600 block of Upton Road in Central Point at 9:30 a.m. April 30 by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. He has no fixed address, according to court records.

Boyce is accused of killing 36-year-old Rory James Pomeroy in the parking lot of the Lowe’s Home Improvement store on Crater Lake Highway in Medford.

Boyce’s criminal charges in Jackson County date back to 2016 when he faced a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, court records show. He also faced separate charges of fourth-degree assault, second-degree theft and first-degree criminal trespass, all in 2024.

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Alyssa Claseman and Deputy District Attorney Brannon Schwab, according to the Jackson County District Attorney’s office.
