For the second time in 11 days, Crater’s top-ranked girls basketball team flirted with the century mark in scoring yet another one-sided Class 5A triumph Friday night in Eugene.

The Comets could seemingly do no wrong in a 34-point first quarter that set the mood for what eventually evolved into a 97-27 romp over Churchill to remain undefeated in Midwestern League play.

On Jan. 14, Crater set school records for most points in a quarter (39) and overall (98) in an 83-point win over Ashland.

Taylor Young scored 12 of her 22 points in the first quarter Friday, and Crater (17-1, 5-0 MWL) got eight points from Lydia Traore and six apiece from Sage Winslow and Addi Dippel to put the Lancers (1-15, 0-4) in the rearview mirror after only eight minutes of action.

Winslow went on to total 24 points to complement 11 steals, four rebounds and three assists, while Traore finished with 18 points, 16 rebounds and three steals.

Young rounded out her effort with five steals, five assists and five rebounds, and Dippel accounted for 11 points overall.

Churchill could only muster seven points in the first quarter to fall into a 27-point hole, and the deficit was 61-13 by halftime.

Freshman Jenna Stone scored seven points and senior Paityn Erlenbush had eight points for the Lancers.

Crater has now won its opening five MWL games by an average of 52 points, with one week to prepare for what should be its best chance of being tested in next Friday’s home date with Springfield. The Millers are ranked No. 6 in the Class 5A coaches poll.
