- Chamber Music Concerts will present AGAVE early music ensemble with Reginald Mobley, countertenor, in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the Music Recital Hall, 450 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University. The program, “American Originals,” celebrates the music of Black and brown composers from the U.S., Mexico, Cuba, and South America. This program explores how the blending of European, African and indigenous styles created uniquely American sounds, including Scott Joplin’s ”Bethena,” a song by Black American guitar virtuoso Justin Holland (a friend of Frederick Douglass), two works by the earliest known native Cuban classical composer, and a set of songs by Florence B. Price, who seamlessly blended romantic art song and spirituals into a sound all her own. Tickets are $39-$49, discounts available for full-time students and Oregon Trail Card holders. To purchase tickets and see program details, see chambermusicconcerts.org or call 541-552-6154.
