Medford on Tuesday saw its warmest-ever day in January, but the unseasonable T-shirt weather won’t last.

The National Weather Service recorded a high temperature of 73 degrees at the Medford airport weather station Tuesday, according to meteorologist Tim Daldrup.

Not only does the temperature shatter the 1995 record for this date by nine degrees, it also breaks the 71-degree records set previously on Jan. 20, 1961, and Jan. 21, 1981.

“That’s a record for any day in January,” Daldrup said.

The heat won’t last. Wednesday’s high is predicted to be 58 degrees.

“By tomorrow, a cold front will start moving over the area and temperatures will drop for the next week at least,” Daldrup said. “It’s going to drop quickly.”

From Thursday through at least Feb. 6, high temperatures will hover between the high 40s and low 50s.
